CLUB FUGAZI IS BACK WITH THE LOVELY ‘DEAR SAN FRANCISCO A HIGH FLYING LOVE STORY’

THE AMAZING ‘SEVEN FINGERS’

WILL SWEEP YOU AWAY

WITH THE DAZZLING

NEW SAN FRANCISCO EXPERIENCE

AND THE BEST NEW SHOW FOR 2021

Club FUGAZI, after hosting the iconic ‘Beach Blanket Babylon’ for 45 years, the Green Street club has reopened this fall with a new show that is sure to run as long. DEAR SAN FRANCISCO: A High-Flying Love Story from the world-renowned circus and artists The 7 Fingers. Created by Bay Area natives and founders Gypsy Snider and Shana Carroll; they have found their new SF home. FUGAZI has been revamped and is welcoming back a new San Francisco tradition.

DEAR SAN FRANCISCO honors the history of the City by the Bay from the Goldrush, the 06 Earthquake, China Town, The Beat Generation, Sam Spade, The Summer of Love and, of course, our iconic fog. With the use of Shadow puppets, spoken word, dance, acrobatics and original music this 90 minute LOVE LETTER will sweep your emotions past any circus experience you have ever had. Fact is I dislike circuses and after a few jumps and swings acrobatics get redundant to me. But The 7 Fingers won me over from the first Gold Rush shadows to the closing flowers from “Are you coming to San Francisco.”

The many beautifully choreographed sequences are a perfect energy of the Montreal terrific The 7 Fingers better known as Les 7 Doigts. They bring an edge to the acrobatic arts taking risks that sometimes miss, yet go far beyond defying gravity. “Dear San Francisco is the result of a lifelong love affair with the city that continues to reinvent, redefine, and inspire awe,” says Snider and Carroll in a joint statement. “A theatrical love letter of sorts, our hope is that this production will create a shining and welcoming light for all in the San Francisco Bay Area.”

The cast includes some world class artists and world-class international acrobats featuring Isabella Diaz (United States), Melvin Diggs (United States), Devin Henderson (United States), Ruben Ingwersen (Australia), Kalani June (United States), Jérémi Levesque (Canada), Natasha Patterson (United States), Enmeng Song (China), and Junru Wang (China).

The company spreads the immersive story and performance throughout the FUGAZI. The cast flies over the cafe tables, swinging from the balcony and visiting with the audience members seated on stage. The dance and wild movements are choreographed by Shana who has done the same steps for Cirque du Soleil and the 2014 Academy Awards.

The creative staff has deep roots in San Francisco circus working with The Pickle Family Circus and Master Lu Yi the iconic figure in the Bay Area performance. Lu Yi was brought in from China to work with the Pickle family and his spirit is honored in DEAR SAN FRANCISCO. Performer, dancer and juggler Junru Wang from China wows the audience as he spins some amazing Asian rope skills.

The cast wears a number of hats besides their expert acrobatics, each can play an instrument, dance and dramatically bring some of the darker themes of San Francisco’ history. The company interacts with the sold out crowds - at one point offering each member of the audience a wrapped candy. The cast and crowd all eat the sweet drop at the same time to experience the sweet comeback to live performance.

The show references the Covid darkness a few times only to raise the spirits and point out our comeback to better times. The creative team includes Gypsy Snider (Artistic Director), Shana Carroll (Artistic Director), Alexander V. Nichols (Production Designer), Colin Gagne (Composer), Jake Rodriguez (Sound Designer), and Keiko Carreiro (Costume Designer).

THE SEVEN FINGERS and DEAR SAN FRANCISCO - is the show to see this fall if you want to experience live theatre with this lovely memory to The City By The Bay. This is my top 10 best for 2020 and 2021 since the theatre season has been so limited. This is the perfect Holiday treat that will surely extend its run past December 30.

As always remember parking in North Beach is part of the experience and our love for THE FUGAZI and our past memories of BBB. Bring your own flowers to share with the cast as they sing the classic Scott McKenzie song "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair)."
