OUTRAGEOUS FIRST RATE CAMP - NOMI IS THE TRUE TOPLESS SHOWGIRL WHORRIOR, DON’T MISS HER STRIPPER SAG

PEACHES CHRIST BRINGS THE WEST COAST PREMIERE OF ‘SHOWGIRLS THE MUSICAL’ TO SF, WITH SOME OF THE NY LEADS,

AND DIRECTS AN OUTRAGEOUS

TRASHY BOOBS AND HEELS VEGAS ROMP - A MUST SEE!

“I’m from different places” the classic cult line from SHOWGIRLS original midnight film the 1995 NC-17 about Nomi Malone, a Las Vegas stripper who dreams of becoming a showgirl. One of the “best worst” movies, next to “Rocky Horror” and “Plan Nine”. “SHOWGIRLS The Musical” is now on stage at the Victoria Theater through August 27th celebrating its West Coast Premiere. San Francisco legend Peaches Christ started the cult ride 18 years ago at her Midnight Mass live shows mocking the film with her classic drag family.

The New York team of Bob and Tobly McSmith were influenced by Joshua Grannells (Peaches Christ) savvy mock screenings to create “SHOWGIRLS The Musical” that debuted off Broadway in 2013, and was an instant success. “After 18 years of celebrating the best movie ever made with our annual screening and signature pre-show” says director and co/star Peaches, “I really wanted to step things up a big notch for our 19th year - This show is an exciting new challenge for our production company, - I'm confident we're going to create something that doesn't suck." She is correct this does not suck, it is a guilty pleasure.

Peaches teamed with Mediumface Productions, and imported some of the NY cast to present this West Coast premiere of a naughty and gaudy full length two act musical. As lost wanna be stripper dancer Nomi Malone, is played by the impressive April Kidwell. She gives a hilarious performance and is more off the hook than Elizabeth Berkley including her tears. Kidwell created the classic lost diva for the off Broadway show. Peaches scored the perfect gig to bring the camp to 200% by importing not only Kidwell, but Marcus Deison, and Rori Nogee from the New York cast.

The full of glam musical is not a retelling of the movie’s plot, the music plays to spoof the details, touching on all the tacky we remember. “It must be weird, not having anybody cum on you”, and of course the flying french fries. The good news you don’t need to have seen the film or be a fan to fall for this fantastic cast and production. Of course diehards of Peaches spoof shows will only want more after seeing this two hour romp. Joshua Grannell’s direction is topless heavy and endless grinding as he adds his own San Francisco edge to this production with a bright tinsel and drapes Vegas set design by Ric Ray.

This West Coast version features Peaches in the role of Cristal, along with an excellent side of wig and heels from local drag stars Raya Light, Lady Bear, and vamp singers Bobby Bryce, Tim Wagner, and Anna Muravitskaya. Tits and ass are clearly part of this Vegas romp, and sweet Nomi flashes her areolas in fine fashion as she is topless for most of the show keeping this panty raid NC-17 like the original film. Kidwell’s deer in the head lights perfect gaze and “I am from different places” sexual craze, is the highlight of her impressive performance. “Don’t Lick That Pole, Girl!” featuring Kidwell’s shrill comic voice is one of the many over the top production numbers. The girls whiz and spin on the stripper pole but Kidwell as she slaps her breasts from pole to pole proves her amazing comic timing and has the sold out opening weekend crowd howling with pleasure. The company offers a Vegas strippers night of surprising, sexy, and rated R hilarious fun. Including the classic SHOWGIRL lines “Brown rice is good white rice is bad”, “Long time ago. Doggy Chow. I used to love Doggy Chow.” all remain.

The likable outstanding cast rocks and over acts as each person on the iconic Victoria stage thrusts their tits and ass at full force. Peaches, as Cristal brings her own trashy class to the part Gina Gershon originated. Miss Christ has 18 years experience mocking the Cristal’s character and adds her own coke lines and evil bitch flair, and one of the best tumbles down a staircase in off broadway history. “Best Friends Song” is a classic and directed with class and camp featuring Peaches’ resident choreographer, Rory Davis, who creates some perfect “can’t dance” mess for “Dancing Aint F*cking!”.

Supporting the story is an ensemble of comedic talent, most of whom take on multiple roles, the talented Bobby Bryce plays the Gay dance captain, he is extremely funny alongside his two sidekicks Mittens and Labia played by the excellent Nogee and Muravitskaya. New York cast member, Marcus Desion, reprises his role as Nomi's best girlfriend and plays the sexy James. Desion’s comic timing with Kidwell shines in “Best Friends Song!” and Tim Wagner plays everyone’s white boy and lover, Kyle MacLachlan, and sings “F*cking Underwater” with Kidwell and opens the second act with a water fetish extravaganza. Local favorite drag star, Raya Light, plays the wrangling penis king Andrew Rapersoon as he keeps the rape magic lewd and crude. His bright red cock is part of Amie Sarazan’s costume creations and even though boobs uncensored don’t need much of a wrap, the panties and skimpy gowns are stripper perfect.

Most of the songs are in bad taste and for me they were all a guilty pleasure, the music under the direction of Peter Fogel and his three musicians rock to keep the cast rocking. The “trump” humiliation and disrespect to women is a bit harsh, but the sold out crowd cheered and loved Peaches’ every move and smirk on stage. But the real star of this slut fest is April Kidwell, she is blessed with the comic skill to carry this show and make it the hit it has become. Her skammpy dance moves, comic boobs and jazz hands only showcase her kick ass voice, she is a talent to watch and I look forward to seeing her in future projects; she is a broadway hit.

“I am the goddess. Look at me,” announces Cristal the superstar stripper as she burst through a volcano, Peaches’ directs herself as we have seen her in most of her other productions, but for this parody her heels and big hair work to perfection. “There's always someone younger and hungrier coming down the stairs after you” says Cristal as the “All About Eve” subtext is chopping at all the older strippers. Leo Hidalgo’s lighting design bounces off the back drapes with Vegas glamor, and Anton Hedman’s sound design needs to be creative to hide those mics on naked players.

This twisted stripper novella is a winner and the side-splitting camp and trash build to a Hollywood closing and the company cheers on Nomi in the show stopper “Whorrior!” number and “I’m From different places” finish. Nomi sings to the crowd, "This movie would be better without the rape at the end." Head to the Victoria theater this month, SHOWGIRLS just has two more weekends, and arrive dressed for some pure Vegas topless whore’s in heels in the best way. You need to arrive early as Lady Bear hosts a lap dance preshow and intermission diaper fest that you don’t want to miss. This Peaches Christ SHOWGIRLS is a sure hit, don’t miss the sleazy fun and become a WHORRIOR!
